I have experience with a school like that. The way it worked for me is that I was given instruction and items to buy. I had to do assignments after reviewing styles and techniques of drawing and painting. Ultimately using a camera and scanner I submitted my projects to them and I was scored based on that along with extra credit and online attendance. I got tired after about 1 year and then I stopped.

I have heard of some of the schools you will find at the above link. They are very well recognized.

You could phone Nintendo and Microsoft and Sony and ask someone in an upper-management position or human resources what sort of people they hire. Where these people have trained, what colleges or universities they recommend.

It is also very important to talk about "innate" or "natural talent." If you are really good at something, people will possibly sponsor you or train you directly. This is an internship or sponsorship.

The Art Institutes are an elaborate scam set up to funnel money through students from the government in the form of Pell Grants and Federal Student loans. They take ANYONE who can get a government grant/loan (which is ANYONE really.) Even non-artists.

They use the government to strong arm the money out of already broke artists. It's NOT worth it.

The degrees are worthless. Their job leads are trash. The programs are usually poor too but you don't notice until you're deep into them.

That is why most of their money comes from people who drop out after realizing the above. Avoid them like a plague.
