Who is attending the Florence Design Academy this fall?

We Answered:

Hello!
I am trying to study abroad in a year for a year in Florence! If you went a little later I could be your roommate :) because I don't want to do a homestay and I don't want to stay alone. But if you don't find one let me know and tell me how it is.

Good Luck!

Has anyone attended IADT (international academy of design and technology) in Florida?

We Answered:

Don't go to IADT. You will be paying way too much for way too little education. Their "national" accreditation holds very few standards for its schools and is no way on the same level as regionally accredited schools and universities.

I moved to Tampa to attend IADT and after 3 semesters of a lack luster curriculum, poorly trained instructors, and inept administrators I decided it was a waste of my time. I was actually told by the dean that there is no requirement for any of their instructors to hold any sort of teacher or professional certification, and believe me it shows. Also no credits will transfer out if you choose to take your "degree" to another school.

Most importantly the price of attendance is more than twice that of a bachelors program at a regional school per credit hour. IADT offers AA degrees that will end up costing you upwards towards 40 grand. An AA at a community college would cost around 4-6, and it would transfer to any school you want.

Hope i could help. I dont want to see anyone waste their time and money if they dont have to.

Joan Said:

Are the arts institute or the International academy of design and technology-?

We Answered:

I go to the Art Institutes International Minnesota in Minneapolis and am absolutely loving it. Now I go for a Graphic Design major, but I hear people are very, very happy with the Interior Design program. It could vary from school to school, especially with Ai. Take the Chicago school for example, it is a detailed more towards Culinary, while the LA school is more for Fashion Design. The Philadelphia School is more of an Animation school, and that's a traditional medium (pencil / pen and paper) animation.

I will not lie, Ai is expensive, but I'm very happy with the school itself.

On a side-note, have you checked out the U of Washington, and their Interior Design program? What about Digipenn, they're a HUGELY renowned school for any type of art. If your willing, I would even think UCLA, they're very famous for many of their liberal degree's.

If your interested, tour the school(s), and see what you like / dislike about the school. On an off day, go into the school and sit in during a class, or talk with the professors / students there. See if you can get hold of some alumnae from any of the schools your looking to going to.

Me personally, I'm in frequent contact with a designer from the Philadelphia School who works with Cartoon Network right now, and he's responsible for a lot of the story-boarding / animation on the television show Chowder. I have also talked to more then a couple alumnae who have hit it off big. It's taught me more then a couple things about the school, and the one main thing is that it will make you earn that degree. It is not easy. Remember that.

Good luck in your decisions.

Gloria Said:

Will My degree from International Academy of Design and Technology be accepted by employers?

We Answered:

Many regionally accredited colleges and universities will not accept the credits. Some employers will care about accreditation and some will not.

Best wishes.
