Mass College Of Art And Design

Monica Said:

mass communication and graphic design?

We Answered:

I'm not sure, because people usually pick mass comm because it's the easiest degree to get.

I suggest, at the very least, make design or art the major and mass comm the minor, if only to be little more ambitious, and pursue a career in print, web or motion graphics OR become an art teacher.

Maybe kick mass comm to the curb and make education or business the minor?

Bertha Said:

Mass Communications(MC) or Interpreter(CTI)?

We Answered:

okay here's the deal.. all other things being equal..

MC is oa very small rating and can be very hard to get promoted in.

CTI, while undermanned in most languages, , also tends to be.. shall we say.. un fun. every CTI I know has loathed it and bailed after their 6 years. its also damn hard to pass the DLAB witha score high enough to qualify( currently Navy will only take youif you qualify for a category 4 language: Farsi, Pashtun, Dari, etc)

you do get a sweet Clearance that can open a lot of doors inthe civilian workplace.

CTI: you spend your days in small dark rooms with headphones on transcribing. you WILL NOT translate.

MC: you could spend your days writing articles, or taking pictures, or following the ADM around on all his Meet n Greets.

Georgia Said:

im in college, im interested in video production, but im not sure which major it is! HELP!?

We Answered:

Out of the list, radio & television broadcasting seems to be the best fit. Also, talk to a counselor on campus and see what major they recommend. Also think about what you want to major in when you transfer. A film major comes to mind. I suggest you look into CSU and UC with film majors and see if any offer a concentration in editing. If you go to www.assist.org you can find out what pre-major requirements you'd need to fulfill before you could transfer to the CSU or UC of your choosing. You'll also need to complete IGETC (GE for both CSU and UC) or CSE GE (just CSU). If you go to the counseling office, they can expand upon this and answer any questions you may have about IGETC/CSUGE, transfer, pre-major requirements, etc.

Good luck!
