Art Boarding School

Mitchell Said:

Should i go to a boarding school for the arts?

We Answered:

There are 3 boarding schools in the US that focus on the arts:

Walnut Hill http://www.walnuthillarts.org/

Interlochen http://academy.interlochen.org/

Idyllwild arts http://www.idyllwildarts.org/academy/aca…

There are also many academic boarding schools that have a great performing arts department. However, the focus will be on academics.

Good luck!

How to afford a Art Boarding School?

We Answered:

If the financial aid doesn't cut it, then try to apply for a scholarship. Look to see if there are merit scholarships available at Bevant.

I'm not familiar with this school: There are other incredible art boarding schools that are extremely generous with financial aid (Interlochen & Idyllwild). Those are the two most well-known art boarding schools in North America, but they are ultra-exclusive so unless you're the best of the best, it's probably not worth the $ applying. It costs alot to even APPLY, after all! (SSATs, entrance forms = over 100 dollars without a waiver)

You could also get a boarding school loan, but I'm not familiar with those, but do some research on them, okay?

Good luck!

Which is more prestigious for an art high school boarding school?

We Answered:

I've heard more of Interlochen. But prestige shouldn't matter, there is a lot of false PR about many private schools out there.

Sometimes the PR can be exactly opposite of the truth. A prestigious school in my area that always talks about what close-knit community the school is, when anyone in the know knows that the kids are too competitive and the parents are obnoxious. While their rival, a similarly rigorous school, same stats and prestige, is known for the kids being nice and supportive of each other. So the best thing you can do is to visit the schools and see which one is the better fit for you. My son knew immediately when he visited schools, and he definitely made the right choice.

Good luck!
