Performing Arts In Education

Constance Said:

should there be more arts in public schools?

We Answered:

I think that it is absolutely important and i am saddened that funding for the arts is always the first thing to go. Arts education is very important for a number of reasons. First, children become more well-rounded when they study a variety of subjects. Secondly, it has been proven that students who are involved in music and theatre have better math and English scores on average than those who do not. Third, just think how boring our world would be if Mozart or Aristotle or DA Vinci had not been exposed to a variety of subjects. This is a topic very close to my heart as I am an actress and I took music classes all through my schooling. :)

Ernest Said:

Does anyone know a good college that majors in secondary education of performing arts or, or and filming?

We Answered:

I found 84 4-year schools in the US with a Secondary Education major and Performing Arts as a teaching field. Sorry, nothing for film as a teaching field, but several hundred with RTF [Radio TV film] as a major.

What state are you in? That would help a lot.

Also, do you have your SAT or ACT scores? That also would help refine the search.

Aaron Said:

Majoring in performing arts and education at University of TN?

We Answered:

Plan on at least 5 years of college. Any arts (dance, music or theater) major requires many credits and extra time for rehearsals etc. Any educational degree will require one whole semester to student teach. You will not get all requirements for both done in four years.
Also most colleges will require you to audition for the theater department.
